Free Money From My GM Dealer??? Anyone Else???

I didnt know where to post this, so here goes. I got a call today from my Chevy Dealer telling me that they are 'holding for me $13,850 to put towards any new or used car on the lot'...and will take my 2006 Aveo as a trade even if it isnt paid off,...it is paid off and I am trying to keep it running and looking showroom new. Well long post short, has anyone else gotten a call like this from their Chevy dealer? They said it was from ALL the service visits I had during and after my warranty ran out. I had a lot of visits for trim repairs and a few very minor mechanical issues...now all the expensive repairs are happening at the 19,800 mark! And of course no warranty.

Anyway...I told them that I MIGHT be interested in the Sonic, but how much does this car cost? Between what my car is worth and the money that they have 'for me' at the dealership...I would be financing like $1,000? Or is this thing a stripper model and then it rises rapidly up to the range of a top line Civic? I am totally ignorant of this Sonic. Is it just a new body rapped around the Aveo engine? Is it another Korean car? Or is it all GM? They said they have some on the lot for me to come look at. But having JUST put in a $600 starter in my Aveo, new tires, coolant flushed, and only 19K at nearly 6 years, and no payments, why trade in? The new car smell comes in a bottle now.

the sonic is built in michigan, designed in korea.

This sounds like a scam to me, but i would definitely check it out.. (probably up to that amount, if you buy an escalade you will get the full amount.)

^ I agree. The "up to" is the key to the whole thing I'm sure.
Sorry GM, the Turbo Sonic was priced too close to the Focus ST. I gots me a Ford.

I would definitely go to the dealer and get it in writing.

Yea it is usually a scam that they send in the mail and it always says....'up to this amount', and then in the fine print they give you the black books 'rough trade in' condition amount for your car, so its next to nothing, and my car is showroom new in and out and 19K miles...I am not taking 'rough condition' for that car. Then they sell it for top dollar. But when this woman called me she said the exact amount of money was 'in my account' at the dealership to use on any car/truck, new or used. She never said, 'up to this amount'...depending on your credit or what you buy. I might go look into it if I am bored one day. But i guess no one else is getting this offer yet from their dealer?

Only on the tree in my yard. The one thing i can say about my Aveo at least, is that it has never had a 'mechanical problem' until I had to replace the starter last month, 6 years into owning it. And replacing the battery a year ago...not to bad. Thats not a lemon. It is all the damn plastic 'trim' parts that kept falling off, or cracking from the sun, or the hatch lever, also plastic, not releasing the hatch, those were the only problems I had with it. Now with no warranty, of course, the mechanical issues will now happen, from age, not usage.

6 years is pretty good. I see now why you are debating on taking this offer. I guess the only thing I could point out is you might be among the first in this forum to own a sonic.

My dad got the same notice from the Jeep dealer he bought his Jeep at. Its not so much "GM" wanting you to buy a new car as much as it is the actual DEALER wanting you to trade in your car for a new one. I wouldnt look to far into it, unless you are craving a new car.
