engine air filter never seems to get dirty

What gives? When I get around to replacing my cabin air filter, it is filthy. Not so for my engine air filter. Just replaced it after an approximate 20,000 mile interval and it looks like new! I guess I am worried that somehow the incoming air is bypassing the filter, but I don't know how.

Engine air filters don't get all that dirty so quickly, unless you live in a super dust bowl.
