Sad that the Aveo went bye-bye when the Sonic arrived?

      Well, you're in luck...

You can still get a new Aveo sedan or hatch in South Africa, which has a history of continuing to sell "previous version" cars alongside the next generation.

Case in point: their top selling passenger car is currently the "previous version" VW Polo.

Notice the Spark? Previous version of that one available too (which wasn't available in North America).

Yes indeed, they still make them, just not for all markets. This fact sparked a heated debate with a (US) dealer parts counter guy who thought I was nuts when I brought the topic up. It's all about 'marketing' to confuse the consumer. Often what a dealer will quote as 'unavailable' or discontinued just means not available to them in their 'market'.

That's pretty cool. I love checking out this kind of stuff. And I'm always interested in how each markets vehicle is equipped. Example... the Korean Cruze has the sunglasses holder the original Aveo had. This bolts in to several GM models in place of the grab handles. So for $20 on Ebay, you can order up a brand new GM factory part and install it in your Aveo, Cruze, Sonic, or others, if your's just has the handle. I've always been into nerdy things like interchangeable parts from the factory. My 2003 Mustang GT has the Mach 1 chin spoiler and grille delete, and Bullit shifter.

It's kind of like the storage box built into the dash for some markets, but was never put into USDM cars.
