      chip in key?

      hey guys...

im a good friend of Nemasys (2.0L turbo aveo)

i registered on here cause my mom just bought a blue 2010 aveo hatch...

i installed 6000k hid's on her car, and now im about to install a remote starter...

im wondering if she has a chip in the key? i called GM and they told me that if the car has power locks and windows the key has a chip, but if its not power locks/windows it doesn't have a chip...

      does this makes sense?

if i do have a chip and need a bypass module, which one do i get?

      thanks for the help!

Another way to find out is to take the column covers off an see if you have two wires going to the lock cylinder.

But I think it was "decided" that they do have a chip in them?

      I'm not sure otherwise.

when i took off the columm cover there was a immobilizer thing, when i unpluged it the car would not start... so i guess thats for the chip thing... so lets say there is a chip in the key, what should i buy to bypass it? i found a pkuaveo... Bypass Essentials PKUAVEO XpressKit Ignition override immobilizer for select 2009-up Chevrolet and Pontiac vehicles with factory anti-theft systems - Hands-on Research at Crutchfield.com

      Damn. Your right.

Unplugging isn't always the solution, sometimes you need to jump it.

I know my 09 5 does NOT have a chip in it. I had a locksmith cut a spare for me and he affirmed no chip!

YES another way is to look at the key if it has a plug at the end of the plastic red dot or black it has a chip in the key.
