Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
Ok everyone, hate to be the bearer of bad news. I wanted to see why the Chevrolet websites had not been update to reflect the arrival of the 2011 Aveo. The Chevrolet representative told me that there will be no more Aveo. Its done. Needless to say I am extremely dissappointed. Here is a copy of the chat transcript from this morning.
Chat Transcript:
Welcome to Chevrolet. Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...You have been connected to Marie J. Marie J: Hi Fred! How can I help you?
Fred: Hey good morning!
Fred: is this Danbury Chevy, or Chevrolet itself
Marie J: I am with General Motors.
Fred: ok, cool. i have been buying Chevrolets right straight along since I have been driving so lets say I'm very satisfied except for one minor detail.
Fred: right now i have a 2002 Z71 Suburban, and a 2004 Aveo Sedan, and its time to replace the Aveo because she has 115K on her. Shes served me well but I was entertaining the idea of buying a new Aveo and keeping the 04 too.
Fred: I want to buy a 2011 Aveo but do not see it on any Chevrolet website
Fred: did you all stop production?
Marie J: Thank you for your loyalty to Chevrolet. Unfortunately, they are not making a 2011 Aveo. They are now making a vehicle called the Cruze. The Cruze has the spaciousness and amenities of a midsize car with the fuel economy and price of a compact.
Fred: what!!!!!!
Fred: what about a 2012 Aveo?
Marie J: Unfortunatley, we do not have information if there will be a 2012 model, but my thought would be no.
Marie J: What is it about the Aveo that you like?
Fred: you guys are killing me!
Fred: My Aveo is the most awesome little 4 cyl car I have ever owned. I'm 6ft 1" and havent been able to fit into a small car comfortable since I was in my teens. Also its real zippy, and drives well, and is perfect for what I use it for. Everyday driving. My 02 Suburban has like 78K on it and like I said the Aveo has 115K on it.
Fred: I'm going to have to find low mileage used Aveos
Marie J: The 1.4 turbo Cruze will deliver highway fuel economy ranging from 38 to 40 mpg depending on transmission and model.
Fred: oh, the Aveo is awesome in the snow!
Fred: so what youre telling me is that the Aveo is done permanently
Marie J: A used vehicle is also an option. I am going to refer you to the GM certified pre-owned vehicle web site http://www.gmcertified.com if you would like to locate a vehicle.
Marie J: Unfortunately, I do not know if they will be brining the Aveo back but I highly doubt it at this time.
Fred: I was hoping for this! http://www.autoincar.com/wp-content/upl ... edan-1.jpg
Fred: please copy and paste that and you'll see what i mean
Fred: its a pic of the 2012 Aveo Sedan
Marie J: I know it is hard once you find a good product, and they take it away. I do see the picture of the vehicle, it is sharp looking. Unfortunately, according to my resources I am unaware of a 2012 Aveo and nothing is planned.
Fred: Ok I guess then I'll have to see about the new Cruze. Such a shame about the Aveo. There are a lot of us who really like it.
Marie J: I think you'll find the Cruze quite nice, If not we still have plenty 2010's for you. Best of luck, and enjoy your Aveo!
Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
From what i have seen, the 2011 model is a no go. they are already producing something else like the cruze with a 1.6l (when will it be 1.4t 2010 models?) , and they are tooling for the 2012 in the us.
korea isn't supposedly making the new aveo at all, which is good for US industry i guess if the world supply is us built..

(Did you mean to type "2012" in that sentence?)
I think your GM rep was misinformed. I think the key phrases from her in your chat transcript are...
Quote:
Unfortunately, ***according to my resources*** I am unaware of a 2012 Aveo
Quite possible her resources aren't right. She was probably just clicking links on an intranet page, which is only as good as the person who made the page for her.

Doesn't exactly sound conclusive to me!
Of course, anything is possible. But if I had to bet, I'd put my money on seeing a 2012 Aveo.
Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
i doubt they will only have the cruze, why spend money on development and not use it, they can not afford not to have it
Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
I gotta say that it made me feel kind of upset because I was really looking forward to the 2012 Aveo Sedan. I'm glad that you all have info contrary to what the GM rep told me.
Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
i'm not sold on the aveo sedan actually coming, i see it as the same car as the cruise, like the sunfire versus cavalier...
of course gm likes to compete with itself. so it might, but to me it was an aveo front end on the cruze...
Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
there was never going to be a new aveo sedan, but the cruze is the same thing, just renamed :P
there will be an aveo hatch though
Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
I'm not convinced that the Cruze = Aveo sedan.
The Cruze is a bigger car than the next Aveo will be. Think Yaris sedan vs. Corolla for comparison.

Re: Chevrolet says: No More Aveo
to save searching:
aveo guesstimates:
Dimension: 2010 (in / mm) ... 2012 (in / mm) ... difference (in / mm)
Wheelbase: 97.6 / 2479 ... 98.7 / 2507 ... +1.1 / 27.6
Length: 154.3 / 3919 ... 157.7 / 4005 ... +3.4 / 85
Width: 66.1 / 1679 ... 68.2 / 1732 ... +2.1 / 53
Height: 59.3 / 1506 ... 59.2 / 1503 ... -0.1 / 3
Track (front): 57.1 / 1450 ... 59.0 / 1498 ... +1.9 / 48
Track (rear): 55.5 / 1410 ... 57.0 / 1447 ... +1.5 / 37 **
cruze actuals:
Length [in.]: 178.5
Width [in.]: 70.7
Height [in.]: 58.2
Wheelbase [in.]: 105.7
Front Track [in.]: 60.7
Rear Track [in.]: 61.3
i'm not saying they are the exact platform like the sunfire and cavalier, or even the pt cruiser and neon. But with the 1.4t drivetrain supposedly in both, the "smaller" than traditional gm platform, the fact they are both are daewoo designed cars (which could be the only exception). the fact that gm supposedly learned not to build overlap be reducing its name brands. I just dont see the need or purpose for gm to have the aveo sedan beside the cruze in dealerships. Other the the cgi? of the aveo sedan, there has been nothing spoken about it. although we dont hear much about the aveo in general, hence this topic.
the same drivetrain could be european design like vw offers the larger engine in the small car as the base engine in the next size up etc.. mk4 jetta has a 2.0, 1.8t, 2.8 vr6 then b5.5 passat has 1.8t, and a v6 or newer models all have the 2.0t.. but gm never followed that line of thinking.
i'm all for the sedan to be offered (more likely to get my 1.4t swap out of a yard sooner, if i dont go cobalt lnf..) but there is even a lacetti (cruze) hatchback rendering out.. so only time can tell.

GM needs an entry level sedan to compete with offerings from other companies.
Keep in mind the Cruze starts at $17k for the base model. Fiesta sedan starts at $13.3k.
Maybe they'd be better off doing a Beat sedan version.
