Aveo trivia: what does "aveo" mean?
NOTE: see also ...
---------
I read in the wikipedia article that "kalos" means "beautiful" in ancient Greek.
But I never saw any reference to what "Aveo" means. I assumed it was just a made up word, until I stumbled across an article on a Korean website about a car from the 90's called the "Avella"...
Quote:
Its name, Avella, was a portmanteau for “aveo,” which means “desire” in Latin, and “ella,” a Spanish pronoun meaning “she.” By giving the car that name, Kia wanted it to be a car that people would desire.

So there you go. Aveo means "desire". Check it in this Latin dictionary:

PS: the "Avella" may look familiar to North Americans ... as the Ford Aspire. =D>

Great now people are going to think they can take motors out of fords and drop them in the aveo. . .
Re: Aveo trivia: what does "aveo" mean?
Oh I already have, 5.0 Mustang motor in mine. Vroom vroom.
Ok, I have a 5.0 about as much as Hunter has VTec
Re: Aveo trivia: what does "aveo" mean?
Intriguing discussion. True, in Latin it would mean "I wish" or "I desire". But today hardly anyone knows Latin and no one knows with certainty what it means, if anything, nor how to pronounce it.
Personally I say AH-vey-oh, (with the first syllable accented, as it would be in Latin) but some say Ah-VEY-oh.
I say ToMAYto, you say ToMAHto... :|
I assume Chevy might have learned a lesson by now about naming their car models. When they marketed the Chevy Nova in Spanish speaking countries it immediately became the obvious butt of jokes about being the car that would NO VA.
Re: Aveo trivia: what does "aveo" mean?
Ah you beat me too it...I was going to say better than NOVA which translates to 'doesn't run' LOL.
I think GM should have had some balls and called it the Vega. After all Aveo is only one letter off and re-arranged.
I suppose 'Aveo' helped save money in tooling costs for Pontiac since all you have to do is add the W to the front and chop off the O . I call them Waveo's lol. -Could be pronounced Wah - Veo or Wave-eo.
Over all it's all better than 'Beat'.. who wan't to buy a car thats beat, or always gets beat.

They could have called it the Nova or better yet, the Supernova. Nothing like a car that explodes...(nah, that was the Ford Pinto). 8-[

When it becomes a 'beater' you'll know it was named appropriately. :?
I liked a t-shirt I once saw back in the '70's. It said: "How's your ASPEN?"
