Where to use gasket sealant?

I am reworking the head on an 04 Aveo. I ordered and got a kit with valves, bolts, gaskets and seals to redo the head and reinstall. Timing belt idler failure. No instructions of course. I am a DIY with some engine rebuild experience. The kit came with a tube of high heat gasket sealer. I know you don't use gasket sealer on gaskets unless required. The only place I have seen sealant suggested is on the valve cover gasket in specific places like cam cap ears. Anywhere else?
