      P0446 & P0451 - EVAP Error Codes

      Hello Aveo Warriors!

      one more question today.

2006 Chevy Aveo with about 250000 miles.

What be the average cost to fix the following two error codes:

P0446 - EVAP System Vent Control Circuit
      Po451 - EVAP System Pressure Sensor/Switch 'A' Circuit Range/Performance

      Best case scenario?
      Worse case scenario?

Mechanic I took to is also telling me that they suspect the purge switch is not getting power and that they are not equipped to handle electrical issues.

oh, one more thing: could EVAP issues also cause a P0016 issue - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A?

      thank you.

YouTube and a multimeter will be good friends to use here.

I would hope that with 250K on the Odometer, you should have replaced the Evap. vent valve at 100K.
The valve itself is an easy fix, located at the rear right wheel well, bumper area. Seeing as you are in Fla. I would not expect
rusted out electrical connections, but some of the vent lines maybe dry-rotten. That is also an easy fix.
Most likely it is the solenoid in the valve that has failed. About $40 at Advance Auto.

Hunterboy149, thank you for your informative reply. to my knowledge, i have not replaced any part related to the EVAP system. And speaking of, how many major parts are there? Valve, solenoid and canister? And, looking through the internet, saw a lot of articles/pictures of non-2006 models showing the valve and/or solenoid being behind the engine block, where i thought i could see and reach it, but i could not see it. Now you're saying that the solenoid is located at the rear right wheel well, bumper area? i'll try to see if i can see anything back there. i do not have a jack or rasing platforms as i am not allowed to work on my car...as per the watchful eye of the HOA. Aslo, the symptom that I get is that i get gasoline odor everytime i fill up and it does use gasoline quicker than what i remember. And, lastly, the reason I was asking is because i was finally breaking down and taking it to a shop. i have since and they suspect that the solenoid is not getting power and that they do not have the capability in troubleshooting electrical issues. So, maybe i'll get lucky between now and tuesday after labor day, when i am taking to another shop. once again, thank you!

Both of these codes have the fuel pressure sensor in common. That sensor lives under the back seat under a plastic cover on the fuel pump. Easy to get to. Cheap part.

The vent solenoid lives behind the right rear wheel, also easy to get to. This, when faulty and stuck in the open state will allow you to smell gas.

      Eg.h2o,

      thank you for the information.

nearly done with my landscape work and i will the go a-hunting for those two parts' locations.

the vent solenoid is cheap enough...about $40.
Duralast Canister Vent Valve Solenoid PV497

the fuel pressure sensor though is not cheap. at least not on my budget...about $160. Unless I'm not looking up the correct part, which is very possible!

      $158.64 MSRP: $289.63

ok then, thanks again and i'll let you what happens.

oh, regarding my living in Florida. i am a transplant and so is the car. It actually put in 186,000 miles in NYC and surrounding area. Handled great in all the blizzards while a few 4x4's did not. even survived having its tires in 5 inches of ice. i had to use my trusty axe that i carry around to chop at the ice and get me to work on time. great little car! that's why i want to fix its little problems. it deserves it! LOL... -cheers!
