      won't shift

I own a 05 Aveo. Recently, when the engine gets up to around 4K RMP it won't shift. Anyone else experience this, what was the cause?

      Any ideas!?

      Thanks!

not much you can do yourself aside from pulling the trans and inspecting the internals. First check the fluid level, then check for leaks around the trans.

      Re: won't shift

try to not trust the shift indicator. and feel each gear as you pull back..
only push the button enough to let it slide out of park, it will drop ito reverse and lock. do that same with neutral and then drive.

this probably isn't the problem. but its pretty simple to do and you "might" be shifting into what ever locked gear is below drive accidentally and the indicator isn't aligned properly, the lower gear wont shift.

another thing you could try, dont know if this will work on an aveo either though, is to dicconnect the battery for an hour or two. this may reset the transmission computer.. but it probably wont work for an aveo either.

do you have a check engine light or anything?

these things are both free to do so i would try them. otherwise check the fluid, and the shift linkage on top of the tranny. anything else you will need to take it somewhere.

I didn't mention, this is an automatic transmission.

The check engine light is on, and the HOLD button comes on, but once you stop. Place the car in park and restart. The HOLD button goes away.

      Thanks!

But not if it's blinking hold. Basically when it is blinking and won't shift above 4k, it's because it is in "limp home" mode
