its in the rear somewhere. ive heard of it being in 2 different places. ive heard its actually part of the fuel pump (makes no sense) and ive heard its under the rear seat somewhere(in that area).
have you tried following your fuel lines to see if you can find it somewhere in there?
bleh cant find it...
on my taurus/cavalier and grandam
all i did is jack up the car, kill the fuel pump and then swap the filter ...15mins max.....
this post does not sound to good....

I've got the feeling it is built into the fuel pump. I looked in the factory service manual and could not find it. Weird.
in my book it says to change it at 45,000 km....
seems odd to drop the tank and swap the fuel pump from that....
any gm Techs here?
Hey guys I checked in my catalogues today when I got to work and it says the fuel filter is not serviced. It also says changing the fuel filter requires you to change the fuel pump. This is actually becoming more common I see it all the time when shops are doing tune-ups.
Thanks....
would not being able to change it screw over your MPG?
another fine example of us being herded back to the dealership to support the oem parts business!!
i just got mine changed at the workshop, it's on the right side of the car right in front of the rear torsion beam. Has to be accessed from under the vehicle.
is that all years or just the newer models?
I work for a Chevy dealer and I tried getting the shop to replace the fuel filter during some warranty work and they informed me that the filter was somewhere in the tank and was not serviceable.
oh well, there goes my wanting to put a new fuel filter in my car!!
well which is it, we got 2 different things being said. is it in the tank or not?
There is a filter in the fuel pump assembly (inside the fuel tank). You can access it from under the rear passenger seats. A plastic black circular cap abt 15-20cm diameter, inside is the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.
There is also another external fuel filter outside the fuel tank along the Y-shape fuel line, just at the right side beside the fuel tank. It is beside the rear right wheel where it splits to 2 line. One return fuel line back into the fuel tank (passing through the fuel regulator which is together with the fuel pump assembly) and one going to the front fuel rail.
I believe the 2nd one which is outside at the Y-junction can be changed.
anyone have an idea what it costs to have a shop replace the tank filter?
I was told by my dealership that it is in the tank. period.
That filter is something like a tea bag, except its bigger abt 4 X 3 cm. Its o-ring secured to the base of the fuel pump (sucker part). Its possible to replace, but the problem is I dont think its sold separately without the fuel pump.Quote:

Looking up behind the engine,(under the intake manifold) there looked to be a black canister there with some lines attached to it, and I'm pretty sure a tag on it warning of fuel under pressure.
Could this be it?
No the filter is in the tank I had an uncle change mine. I filled up at a crappy gas station that had really ****ty gas back when gas was 4.15 a gallon. My car could barely run. It took him like an hour to do everything.Quote:

Frame rail , left rear near left rear tire.
Go buy the filter for your aveo and jack your car up. look and compare the filter you get from store. you'll need 2 wrenches.
make sure you take the gas cap off so it releases the pressure a bit.
For safety reason, disconnect battery. i don't , but you're suppose to.
i hope this help....
21 posts later and I'm still waiting for someone to share what year model they're talking about... groan. It's all about details, people!Quote:

I wonder if any car part sites have a picture of the filter?
i am going to be going out to look (work) on my car that evening if it doesnt rain again, i will look and see if it is there. that would cover 09 up aveo 5...
The Daewoo service manual for the kalos suggests that there is an inline fuel filter. I'm pretty sure its mounted to the firewall, behind the engine. ('06)
I think the thing in the tank people are refering to is the pump sock. I could be wrong
Thats accessed from an access point in the interior (5 door)
welcome to the world of daewoo!Quote:

Since I'm having to replace my fuel-pump assembly, I'll post all the nitty-grity photos once my replacement arrives.
Sorry to bring up an old thread but most cars have an "in-line" filter which can and should be serviced. My friend had a 03' I believe suburban and everyone said the only filter it had was in the tank but follow the lines and sure enough there is a line filter. Given I had to take the filter number and get it that way but I got it and changed it nonetheless.
So now onto my issue, I have an 08' hatch w/63XXX miles on it and I want to change it out now and cant find it.
It's in the tank and part of the fuel pump and is non-serviceable. Unless you feel like changing the whole fuel pump.
i cut the fuel line and put in an in line filter on the older models they have only the filter in the tank and the newer ones they added an in line filter so i just added my own and it is glass with a cleanable element and it is great getting little tiny bits of crud in it all the time but i havent had to clean it out yet as i think the one on the tank is doing a pretty good job i guess i just added this one for a little piece of mind knowing that i can protect the the fuel system past the pump .
Glass fuel filter? Isn't that like driving around with a Molotov cocktail underneath? Sheesh... you didn't use compression fittings to splice it in, did you?

it is in a procted place and i just used a couple of hose clamps and the glass is just a window so you can see if it needs to be cleaned really is just a feel good about the injectors for me
Where did you purchase the filter?
I have an 06 and that has no external fuel filter just the filter that is on the fuel pump in the tank. This is becoming more common on some newer vehicles now.
I have a 2003 Kalos. The fuel filter is drivers side rear next too wheel sitting next to the cross member. You need to hoist it to remove and install as it has a cover which is difficult to get to on the ground.
chevy aveo 2009 aka pontiac wave 2009 for US/Canada has ONLY strainer, see picture here - http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f82/o...85/index3.html
