Transmission pan or front differential carrier pan?

      Hello,

I am new to this site and wasn't able to find any info on my searches regarding this topic.
I will post a picture and am hoping that someone would be able to tell me what I am looking at?
As far as one Google search turned up it said it was the front diff carrier pan I do believe but I was unable
to track one down at the local auto parts store. They recommended I go to GM for the gasket. Problem I have is
said part seems to be leaking and I want to fix it up.. It is a oval shaped plate with 8 bolts in it I think?
The car is a 08 Aveo LT 5 spd
Any help or direction will be appreciated

      Thank You
      Carson

Can you add an arrow or something to say what you're talking about? It looks like the bell housing to engine block. Those don't have gaskets. If you're leaking something from that, its engine oil or tranny oil.

It is what is in the first picture I am wondering about, the se ond photo is from farther back. Which as you stated is the bell housing connecting to the block. I am wondering about the cover or pan in the background off to the right hand side?
I found it to be a front differential carrier gasket which is leaking according to a GM part breakdown I found online. However I was unsure and was just inquiring with someone who may have some experience. If not I will head to GM and see what they have.

If you don't want all the hassle, just pop it off and use some RTV sealant / gasket maker on it. That'll work fine.

Thank you, I ended up figuring out which gasket I needed with the guy at GM and got that ordered up but he was saying the fluid I needed was 28$ /litre which isnt cheap. You have any idea on the fluid type that goes in there?
He said it was gear oil or 75w90 but havent bothered trying to figure it out yet elsewhere

Yeah thats kind of a ridiculous price. Its just 75W-90 gear oil. Any autoparts store will have it. I'd recommend a synthetic personally, it will feel better and shift smoother in the cold of winter. I'm not sure how much you need though. I'd guess not more than 4 quarts.

Thank you for the info, havent fixed it yet still..Had to go out of town on some business.. The fluid you recommended isnt for a tranny though and it is for whatever the drivers side axle goes into it seems like.. I just dont want to put in the wrong stuff and have problem.
You are pretty certain it is 75-90 tho?
