      Timing belt Snapped

so i was driving home and my timing belt snapped. the shop gives me a 50/50 chance that i didn't smack the valves. $375.00 US if i didn't and who knows how much of the top end needs to be fixed if i did. i was told that the Aveo has an Interferance motor. BUT there is still a tad bit of room from the piston to the valve so there isn't any damage. I get the call today after the belt is replaced if i didn't do any damage on the valves then i have it covered if i did i'm screwed. well got to go to work now

You did WHAT? to your Aveo? HAHAHAHAHA

That sucks. No body wants to replace the timing belt until it's to late.

Don't even go there with a holier than thou attitude. Sure a lot of people wait until its too late, but it can be too late and still be within the 60,000 factory warranty. Also most people on this forum at least know enough from posts on this board and elsewhere that they are on borrowed time after 55,000 miles. If they are aware of this and they still take the risk of it breaking past the 60k... well that's their deal. Chances are you can get another engine for around $500... but why?

My timing belt was replaced at the dealer for around $270.

      WTF are you talking about?
      A) Why do you feel I have a "holier than thou" attitude? I was sating a fact. If I ever owned a car till 60k miles, I prolly would be guilty as well
B)By too late, I meant after it breaks.

If you look at bird's posts here

      http://www.aveoclub.net/phpBB3/viewt...leage&start=15

he states that the timing belt was replaced before he got it. He was sitting close to 80,000 miles back in January, probably in the upper 80s now. He even said he was going to replace it around 100k miles. That seems like decent servicing to me, no?
