Timing belt?
Hey,
So I've made a couple of threads regarding the timing belt, and here is another one. I'm at 130,000KM and it's still running strong. I bought it at 60,000KM from a lease return. Do you think it was changed?
If not, how much would it cost for a timing belt and water pump, plus labor? $55 a hour I believe.
I think I got a quote from Canadian Tire $100 for the belt and $100 for labor just for the belt. They never mentioned the water pump.
I'm finally working some decent hours so I'm starting to fix it up, just had inspection done and the windshield replaced. Now just to get the paint fixed from keying, wrinkle in fender and the exhaust and possibly this timing belt then I plan on doing a complete tune up, get it detailed and start doing some actual work on it to enjoy it more and get some more performance out of it.
Let me know what your thoughts are,
Brendan

What year is your car? The earlier pre-ecotec motors needed to be done BY 60k.
-
I would bet it was never changed. You want to get a kit with new pulleys and such, if you are changing it you might as well do it the way it is supposed to be done. My local shop which does very good work is charging me $400-500 for everything, but some people spend double that.

It's a 2006. ETEC I think?
-
yes 2006 is ecotec your in canada so 130,ooo km is probly a good time to do it.the person before you would not have done it that early, americans say 60k which means 60 thousand miles.my 05 pontiac wave has 213,000 on original belt i am not changing it cause i just bought a 07 aveo.jut driving the wave for the hell of it now cause its not worth anything resale.
-
if you have 213 on the original belt, i would replace it ad youll have the car another 200k..
transportation is always worth something, $300 is cheap to keep a car versus buying a new one.

good advise rabbit but vehicle is not worth anything so im testing its limits b4 i stop using it 07 in driveway waiting to be drivin.dont get me wrong im not abusing it just not worried.when i take it off the road i will probly just do the waterpump/timing belt then just park it.(only done 1 timing belt/waterpump b4 2000 kia )i honetly dont think any1 should push the belt this long on any korean made car.

i dont understand where you get the car has no value?
a running driving inspected car is always worth something.

ok got me there.there is some value. my guess, as is 1400-1800 but i would not hold my breath.2005 213,000km or so needs front end alignment/windshield/parking brake/pasenger signal lense/2 tire/horn(not sure what part) to safety then timing belt/water pump and tentioners.so putting $ into it i bought her a nice 07 with 38,000km for 6500.00.so i may look for donor car for some partss but i dought it
