Slow engine warmup during winter

Hi,
I am a new member here from Finland. I have posted my introdution and some photos of my car in the introduction thread. I have a 2009 Aveo 1.4 sedan. The question I have is about slow engine warm up during winter. The current temperature outside is -32 deg Celcius. I use engine block heater to warmup the engine for two hours before I drive everyday. But It takes like atleast 15-20 minutes to warm up, even so it isn't what you call hot air being blown inside. I tried to not straight away switching on the internal heater, rather wait for the engine to warmup for sometime while I drive and when the needle moves to quarter, I switch on the heater. But still it is not at all good enough, feeling and being very very cold inside. Could you tell if this a common aveo problem or just mine? I had a Nissan primera before, oh boy, it warms up the engine in minutes. The funny thing about aveo is that the engine temp guage needle never really reaches the half way position. But in the case of Nissan, it reaches the half way mark in minutes and stays there as long as you drive and will only gradually come unlike Aveo, where the temp needle goes down to zero even if you simply idel, like so in a traffic block.

Sounds to me like your thermostat is stuck open. Easy enough to replace.

Yep, sounds like a thermostat to me too.

I replaced mine t-stat last year and it does the same as the old one. 10 minuets of driving before it starts making heat on cold days.

The fact that the water temperature goes down after its already been warmed up means it 99% the thermostat.

It seems to be the nature of the beast. We bought our '09 new and ever since day one it has always been slow to reach operating temp to begin providing heat from the heater. Once it does heat up, it works fine. I'm thinking this might be related to radiator capacity and oil reservoir capacity, both of which seem greater than necessary. The temp rating of the thermostat (whatever the original is?) would also be a factor.

What I did is not to turn on the blower immediately after starting the car. I wait for like 3-5 minutes and wait until the temp needle moves to the second position and then I turn on the blower but keeping the heater knob in the middle positoin(not to full heat). So this way the car warms up to good heat after driving for 3-5 kms.
