Radio won't turn on

About a year ago, the radio on my 2008 Aveo started making clipping noises and after that, there was no sound. If I disconnected the aux cable and reconnected it, the sound would come back, but it didn't always work. It seemed to be working but there was no sound. A few months later, it simply wouldn't turn on, or it would turn on but (rarely) it would display an error.

I tried to evaluate behavior patterns to see if it was related to something specific and in fact it seemed to happen more often on rainy days, but maybe it's just a coincidence because I left the car in the garage and even with the car dry and without getting caught in the rain for weeks it continued to have the same problem. Now it won't turn on at all.

The fuses are all ok, the connectors were cleaned and the battery was disconnected for a few days. Nothing worked. Has anyone here experienced something similar? I was thinking about buying a new radio, but without knowing if the problem is really with the radio or something else, I could be just wasting money 😕

Check for power at the harness behind the radio. If it’s there when it’s supposed to be on, then your head unit is probably dead.
