Overheating, blowing hoses, what the hell is.wrong???

So I have replaced almost every hose, and the.thermostat. The hot air that comes out of the vents is so hot it burns my hand. Then it cools.down slightly for aminute. The temp gauge stays right on the middle, then.it shoots up to HOT, then drops back down to.half. this happens intermittently, at random. Sometimes it keeps happening, sometimes it happens once every hour or so. I worry about the head gasket. I don't know what else to do at this point. There are no leaks anywhere that I can see. Coolant is circulating. It's not low on coolant either. What else is there that im.not seeing?

I am, however, having some engine issues. Cylinder 2 misfires constantly, oxygen sensor keeps tripping. My engine light blinks sometimes while I'm driving. I heat that's bad. But do these issues have ANYTHING to do with the overheating? I need my car for my business! Please help!

Which model year? Was there a leak in the past that you had fixed? At this point the temp might be bouncing up and down due to air trapped in the system. Chances are good the HG is already cooked - these small 4 cylinder vehicles can't handle much overheating. Might be a good idea to do a leak down test.

2010. No prior leaks. HG is ok for now.

I just replaced thermostat yesterday. Went out driving around and doesn't seem to.have made a difference

You need to read the whole thread, which has his eventual fix (i.e. the coolant cap) posted toward the end.
