Need Transmission Help

Hi Guys Noobie here. Just purchased a 2005 Aveo (my 77th car...I like cars) with auto (125k). Bought it sight unseen through a dealer friend knowing it had some issues (alternator, leaky exhaust, some hail damage) but was generally a clean car. Got everything up to snuff with $200 and about 12 hours of hard labor (what I really call FUN) Only issue I can't solve is that it won't shift into overdrive. Shifts fine between the 3 gears and runs absolutely perfect otherwise. Is there a relay or solenoid I should be checking out? Used trannies for these are abundant around here but I'd rather not go that route if I don't have to. Would appreciate a little nudge in the right direction

Usually that means you need a tranny and torque converter rebuild.

Or, you can continue to run it the way it is and have it be a pig on fuel usage.

You know, it's not that bad. Got 27 mpg with over half of that in town. It replaced our 13-17 mpg van Thanks for the reply though...much appreciated. Going to a REAL mechanic Wednesday
