Hello everyone,

Just dropping in to leave some of my experiences with my aveo running hot and sometimes overheating.

It started when I had changed the thermostat and new fluid about 6 months ago. I went cheap and got the least expensive thermostat I could afford off Rock Auto parts. You get what you pay for, the thermostat failed way sooner than expected.

So I'm driving to work in the cool mornings and noticing that my radiator fan is kicking on more than it has before, even in hot weather. Over the next few days my battery dies. Leaving me scratching my head.

Long story short, the bad thermostat was only opening to about half way, causing poor circulation of the coolant, I confirmed this by touching the lower coolant hose and it feeling cool to the touch.

The overheating was causing the cooling fan to work overtime, pretty much the entire time driving, over working the alternator, causing the car to heat more, lose power and drive poorly.

The constant radiator fan, and daytime running headlights combined with my sound system pretty much drained the battery over the course of the week. Three year old battery I'll replace later.

Changed the thermostat and everything is back to normal. Battery is charging normal, might need a replace.

All of that trouble for a faulty thermostat. I pulled the codes and the temp sensor popped up then disappeared the second check. I'll have to change that too just in case. ($12 sensor)

Good luck out there, hope this helps someone.
