I'm new here. I've got a 2002 Chevy Aveo Transmission problem. I need some help

I've got a 2002 Chevy Aveo that runs and drives but there's a problem with the transmission. It will go into gear with a lot of play and make noises. It will try and come out of gear when you let the clutch out but if you hold onto the stick into the same position it won't move. In first gear the cars stick will try and pull forward and in reverse it tries to pull backward. If I don't hold onto it (very firmly) it'll make an audible pop and come out of gear.

I think it might be the shift linkage? I'm an old truck mechanic... I have no idea what I'm doing.

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but I haven't seen anything about it.

This sounds like a bad motor mount, either doggone or transmission side. How did you get an 02 aveo?

Sorry for the late reply. I was occupied doing some Army training. I'm not entirely sure if it's an 02 but I know it's early, I'll know tomorrow when I jack it up to look at the shift linkage.

By bad motor mount, you mean the actual mounts that the motor sits on is bad? I had the hood up when I change gears when the car was off and the entire engine moved with the shifter. Would that be something to do with it?

This is common actually with these cars especially if their life was somewhat in the northern part of the states where winters are prevalent. Motor mount for sure needs replaced. And the linkage is known to just fall apart from sloppiness.
