      If not transmission...

Bought a 2004 Aveo second hand and felt like it was riding a bit rough. To me it felt like a transmission problem. Took it to a transmission specialist and though the ATF was dark he said the gears looked fine, the shift quality was good and then he began a process of slowly replacing the fluid over a few months time.

Now, my girlfriend's Yaris drives smoother than my Aveo and it's actually got about 20,000 more miles on it. Granted, I don't know as much about cars as I should, so what I think feels like a transmission problem could be something completely unrelated, and probably is since two transmission specialists have given the tranny the thumbs up.

But, when I drive my car it feels sluggish, and I notice the shifting in a way that I don't in my gf's Yaris. I'm probably being too vague but are there any thoughts out there about what could be wrong with my car? Could it be a fuel system issue? Air intake? I'm lost.

You get what you pay for? In my experience, Toyota makes a very smooth automatic transmission. Yaris vs Aveo is probably not really a fair comparison. My wife's 2009 Yaris is a considerably better car than my 2010 Aveo IMO....but the Yaris used price was well over my Aveo new net price.

From the description you gave, it sounds like if there is a problem, it is suspension, not driveline related.
Sorry GM, the Turbo Sonic was priced too close to the Focus ST. I gots me a Ford.

Thanks for the feedback! The suspension does squeak a lot when I pull out of driveways and go over even minor bumps in the road. Could this be bogging my car down and making it sluggish? What exactly about suspension problems fits into what I described?

Good info. My Aveo is a manual and can't say that I've ever driven an auto Aveo.

These two comments sound like suspension to me: "riding a bit rough" & "girlfriend's Yaris drives smoother than my Aveo"

This comment sounds like you're noticing the differences between the 2 cars more than a problem with the Aveo: "I notice the shifting in a way that I don't in my gf's Yaris"
