hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
well after hearing this noise i took it in to the shop, but when i got it back thay said idono i cant hear any thing up front, but your rear shocks needed to be replaced that was at like 30,000 miles . so after they replace them im driving the car and dont i hear the same sound?, so i take it back and thay reaplace the lower control arm bushings now.o yea and i got an alignment after all that. and still after all that the tires are chopped after 2,500 miles and i still hear the same noise up front. i got another 3,000 miles before the warranty runs out.so does ne one have any, all,or some of these problems

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
it might be the 'floating' front suspension we have?

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
well, our suspension, the front shock assembly and springs, kinda floats if you know what I mean?
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
basically, what ron is saying, the oem suspension licks balls and you should get aftermarket springs, struts, and shocks.
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
how many miles does your car have? when it it making the sound i.e. all the time, over bumps, turning a certain direction.
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
my car does it everytime i go over something like a speedbump. they lubed some bushings though one time and it stopped for a while. but it's back lol

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
In the online manual it says to put teflon tape on the sway bar and reinstall bushing over it.
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
i get that noise too, and my tires get eaten up ridiculously fast
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
i have had the same noise forever....its just crappy suspension....if you take it to the dealer all they do is grease the suspension up so it goes aways long enough for you to think its fixed then comes back. personally i could care less, i knew what the car was when i got it. yea squeak and moans every once in awhile, but it still does that job for cheaper than anything on the market

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
I dont care about the noise, its the shredded tires I care about, tires arent cheap, especially low profile tires and an alignment seems to not work for this issue.

Yup. Teflon is also lubricant... I bet a couple layers of it will work.

hmm i dont think i have had that problem...i used my stock tires for about a year and a half then switched to bigger rims and tires and used those for about more than two years and they still plently of tread eventhough i never rotated them that much....but now I put my stocks back on (they still have plenty of tread too even though i rotate them rarely) and them seem to be doing fine....ive even had lowering springs for about 2 and half years now.

sounds like a control arm issue. First I would check the control arm to see if there is even any bushing left.
If there isnt, you have 2 options. Get a new control arm with bushings installed or put new bushings in yourself. If you are very mechanically inclined, have a free day (the whole day, and have the proper tools (bushing press) get just the bushings. If you dont wanna waste all day and want to save ALOT of frustration, just get the whole control arms. I replaced control arm bushings on my other car and I will never do it again. And I love working on my car.

I think lowering springs are the key...it stiffens the suspension and might keep the alignment better, I dont think my car is mis-aligned though because it stays straight when I let go of the wheel but I think its a camber problem.

oh i forgot to mention that it started after i crashed it. it's under warranty but it gets annoying knowing that i still have 4 years to pay on it and the chevy dealer couldn't repair it right :|
but thanks for the info! i'll def look into it

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?

Ahh that is useful information. Is the noise coming from the side of the accident? What all got replaced in the accident?

Try the steering knuckles. It sounds like something came loose causing your alignment to get out of whack. It would explain the choppy tires and vibration.

yeah, it's like a real loud creaking noise. i don't like to drive it for long periods cuz idk wats causing it.
and i'll have to look for the papers from the dealer cuz my house caught on fire so idk if i got them with my other paperwork. but here's some pics of the underside. i know a cv joint?

that black plate with the 2 bolts?
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...a/101_1160.jpg
and the struts for sure and transmission

oh and of course the insurance company left my car sitting in my driveway for about 3 weeks so i doubt if that helped at all

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
yea i am betting they didnt replace one part on that side to try to say some money and it is just slightly out of whack
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
i think so. they're trying to tell me that the fender liner is just supposed to tuck under the fender. is there supposed to be bolts where the holes r?
-
Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
If you can find the paperwork, that would help. If they didnt replace the axle, check the dust boot for a tear. I am still sticking with the control arm theory tho. If you have a chance, take some pics of the underside now. Also check to see if the bushings on the control arm are all lubed

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
Has anyone got any help from the dealerships on this issue? Mine has been making the noise for a while but it's gotten worse and it drives me nuts. I've had it to the dealership twice and each time they say the sway bar links have some play but are within "spec". When I do my oil changes, I check everything and they seemed pretty loose to me.

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
well i even went as far and called GM to get some problems resolved. and this is only two of many, ie......when the shop worked on my car it would always come back w/ chips in the paint(when thay took my back seat out to sew a tear in it) ,weather stripping torn (when thay replaced my faulty wiper arms)so every time thay worked on my car i would always go back for another problem, so i think thay were jus fed up w/ my complants and they (GM) were the ones who told me that the dealership would no longer be willing to help me.

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
Wow, what an awesome company. And they wonder why the can't make any money. We should've just let them crash and burn.

just think of how it will be AFTER the bail out:
if you can afford to pay to fix the car yourself, you wont qualify for warranty work.
if you turn 67, you can get warranty work.
if you die, your wife can get warranty work.
and every year before your birthday you will get a letter saying how much warranty work you have qualified for.
warranties will be set up like social security.

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
ruby, i had a hollow noise from my front end once and it turned out to be a bad lower control arm bushing. cost $180.00 for complete repair, and included labor.

Re: hollow noise up front when going over bumps?
sorry to hear that, i got mine fixed under warranty. o yah that was right after thay replaced my rear shocks.yea the car went in for the hollow noise problem and came out w/ new shocks in the rear. so i said what about the noise up front? thay said what noise? so then the car went back for the lower control arm bushings. see what i mean? thats why thay dont want me to come back :x :protest:
