Gear box drain and refill plugs ?
Whereabouts are the drain and fill plugs for the gearbox ?--(Aveo 4 I think E-Tech 16V engine one).
There's a diagram on this link for the transaxle refill but it's only 2.1 litres so I'm thinking that this is for the diff only and that the gearbox plugs are elsewhere .
---or is the diff in the gearbox ?--

Re: Gear box drain and refill plugs ?
I take it that it is the fill port. Do you drain by removing the lower cover?
I am upgrading the fluid to synthetic for better cold weather economy.

The Aveo transmission alreay has synthetic gear oil in it. No need to change.

Can you show me proof of this?

My bad. I have a manual gear box and the only oil recommended for it is 75w90. Never needs replacing according to the maintenance schedule.
As far as the automatic transmission, if requires ESSO JWS 3309... It's not synthetic, but from the description is probably a blend: "Esso ATF 3309 is manufactured from high quality petroleum base stocks, carefully blended with selected additives."

I still would like to swap it out with synthetic so it flows better in the cold and offers less viscosity and will allow for better cold fuel economy and less drivetrain power loss.
