Ebrake issues
Hey guys, just did my first rear brake shoe replacement and after getting it all together and test driving the car, I am noticing that the Emergency brake is very light feeling and that the handle is coming up all the way.. before replacing the shoes the cable was engaged and about half way up on the handle.. what did I miss here?
-
did you adjust it out? self adjusts by driving backward and hitting brakes..
-
I adjusted out the adjusters some.. still was able to slide drums on. I will try driving backwards and hitting the brakes.
-
that didn't seem to tighten up the play in the Ebrake handle.. do I need to go under neither and adjust up the cables?

I don't know what year your Aveo is but here are the instructions for a 2008.
Adjustment
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
- Adjust the rear brakes.
The rear drum brake shoes serve as the parking brakes.
- Release the parking brake.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Check the parking brake cables for free movement.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Move the front seats backward to ensure there is enough working space.
- Pry off the plastic caps that cover the access holes to the parking brake console hood-to-tunnel bracket-screws.
- Unfasten the screws that secure the parking brake console hood to the tunnel brackets.
Attachment 7209
Attachment 7210 - Raise the console hood to expose the parking brake lever assembly and the adjustment nut.
- Partially raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Turn the adjustment nut on the lever assembly until the wheels are difficult to turn.
- Loosen the nut until the rear wheels are just free to turn.
Attachment 7211 - Lower the vehicle.
- Position the parking brake console hood and fasten it to the tunnel brackets with the screws.
- Tighten the parking brake console hood-to-tunnel bracket screws 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
- Snap in the plastic caps that cover the access holes to the parking brake console hood-to-tunnel bracket screws.

2009 shows the same instructions as 2008 so I would think that the 2010 would be the same or a similar procedure.
