Easy Check Engine Light error code readout?

My daughter has a 2006 Chevy Aveo. Wondering if Chevy has somthing in the system to display Check Engine Light error codes similar to my Dodge Dakota. I can turn the ignition key three times and the odometer will display the error code.

I've never seen a key dance documented for the Aveo. But who knows, maybe they built one in and just didn't tell anyone about it. Autozone and some of the other parts guys will read codes for free, and maybe even provide some helpful information, depending on the knowledge of whoever is behind the counter. Make sure to record the codes in the order they are read, if there are more than one. The order they appear in can sometimes make a difference in figuring out the problem.

Yep, AutoZone is where I told her to go. That's a good business practice - they probably make enogh sales from the free check, it's worth their time to do it.

Unfortunately the 2006 Aveo does not have this feature.

The only codes that the Sonic shows in the DIC are to cue you when the vehicle needs particular services (see p. 5-25 of the 2013 Sonic Manual for examples).
