      California Catalytic converters?

      Hey guys,
New guy to the forum here. My aveo recently failed smog. I didn't know at the time but the check engine light was on (led bulb was burned out).

due to a p0420 code I decided to check out the Cat and sure enough part of the honeycomb is melted. I'm sure this has to do with an overheating problem I had about 2 years ago and some oil falling into the combustion chamber when I replaced the head gasket.

I've been desperately trying to find a new Cat but since I live in hippie California, all the aftermarket cats out there are 49-state legal only. Head down to the dealer and they want $1800 for a new cat. I might as well buy a new car. I've been calling all the junk yards here in Socal but haven't been able to find a replacement.
Anybody have any other ideas of where I can find a cat? Or has anybody put in a universal cat in their Aveo?

Details: 2006 Aveo, LT hatchback. Thank you in advance.

If I were doing an aftermarket cat I would offer to sell you my stock one. None of the local parts stores have OEM style's to cover california?

I will think of a better signature later.

Can't you just take it to the local exhaust shop and have them weld one in for ya?

I've checked with all the local parts places. they each refer me to the dealer. So no luck.

Weld a universal cat? I might have to do that yes. Trying to avoid that since I'm sure it won't be cheap.

Have you tried just getting a used one from a salvage yard?

put on a 49 state legal one, i'm not sure how they are different, but the car will run fine with it, you can get it for $300 off ebay new. And you at least tried to stay legal, you could always have just hollowed the bad portion out.

i just read through the california law, unless you have an early build/sell date, it seems you cat should have at least a 7 year 70k mile warranty? are you within that, or at least check what yours IS? then the dealer should put one in free.

I believe this one should/could work. would need to check part swap between vehicles further, but it would have the CA markings on it..:

      Old post.

And Still no after market 'ca only' cats for the Aveos? It seems like a scam, the dealer price is a sick joke. WTF?

Found the magnaflow, California executive order #D-193-116. Under $400. Way to go for those in Kali.

Compare the MF to the stock cat. Fits great.
