Aveo brake pedal travels to floor and weak brakes.

      Hi,

This is my first time posting on this site and hopefully someone can help me out.

My gf's 2007 aveo has a braking issue where the pedal almost goes to the floor with very little effort and the car takes a lot longer to stop than usual (impossible to lock wheels or stop quickly), to the point where the car should not be driven. Brake fluid level has not changed, the brakes were replaced on all 4 corners last fall and lots of material on the front pads. (have not checked the rear).

It was in the garage yesterday, and the guy at the counter said there was a low pressure leak in the break booster, but the work order referred to master cyclinder, which is what I believe it to be.

Has anyone run into anything like this before?

Sounds about right, of the master is going out then you will have no brake pressure. There have been a couple of people needing to replace them, but not very often. They do go bad on all cars though, sometimes they last 80k miles, sometimes they will last the life of the car. How many miles are you at now?

      Welcome to the forum btw!

      Thanks.

There is 136,000 kms on the car and its unreal how many parts are after being replaced. The missus drives it hard, lol.

Ever change the booster/master assy before? Just wondering if it was driveway do able?

I have never done one myself, but you should be able to handle it if you have done work on a car before, it takes some work though.

Its not too difficult. Basically you have to bleed the master cylinder on a bench before installing it in the car. Then, you'll need to bleed all the brake lines once the new master cylinder is installed. Google up a DIY, they should be the same for most any vehicle if you can't find one here.
