Question 2009 Aveo Air Conditioning Probkem

Hi, new to this forum and would appreciate any help that could be given.

Overnight my air conditioing quit working. Car is equipped with V-5 variable displacement compressor. It was cooling great yesterday and today virtually nothing. The clutch is engaging and the compressor is turning. I put guages on it (car not running) and high side was about 110 psig (~90 'F ambient). Low side gauge was high off scale. Pressure is a bit above what it should be for 90 'F but engine was hot when I checked. I started car and turned on A/C. High side went up to about 150 psig and low side came down to about 80 psig. There was a flutter of about 5 psig in low side gauge and a slight flutter in high side. I've theorized on three possibilities:

      -Expansion valve failed wide open
-Suction pressure controller internal to V-5 compressor failed
-More serious problem in compressor like with pistons.

Pressure do not equalize quickly when A/C is shut off so I think valves in compressor are OK.

Anybody got any thoughts on this. I'm hesitant to just spring for a new compressor when it could be something as simple as the expansion sales.

based on price of parts, i would do expansion valve. If the compressor failed i would "assume" it would be noisy or not build 150 psi on the high side.

Does the system cycle on or off?

As far as I know there is no cycling switch. The other V-5 compressor system I'm familiar with (1988 Pontiac Fiero) does not have a cycling switch. The V-5 adjusts stroke to control compressor capacity and prevent low side from getting too low or too high.

I have faced a similar type of problem when I was in driving my car. Suddenly my air conditioner compressor stopped its working in my car and I don't have any idea what to do. My air conditioner compressor seems to be damaged completely and getting some noise also. At that time I have parked my car inside the road and call for mechanic to repair my air conditioner compressor. He did some repairs to my compressor and set it back rightly. So we should have some basic knowledge about these type of problems.
