2009 aveo 5 hatchback speed sensor malfunction

i have 2009 aveo5 hatchback with automatic transmission. my speedometer suddenly jumped to show 60 mph even though i was only going 20 mph. the car started bucking and would not accelerate. no check engine light so no codes to read.

found out from my mechanic that the speed sensor was reading wrong and was causing the car to shift incorrectly - trying to shift into 3rd even though I was just starting to accelerate. replacing the sensor seems to have solved the problem. i realized later i could have just changed the gear shift to be in "manual" to still be able to drive the car.

i could not find any reference any where to this issue. all i found was sensor going bad and reading 0 mph and not 60 mph. has anyone else had this problem?
