      2006 trying to overheat

Here we go again! My 2006 Aveo is trying to run hotter than it should.

I just had a tuneup and the plug wires replaced which fixed the jerking issue, but after that, it seems to want to over heat. I sent it to the mechanic and he gave it back after keeping it for three days saying nothing was wrong. I'm seriously frustrated!

My Aveo usually runs right under the middle mark. When I pull the mountain or as of today, run for a long time on a warm day, it'll run right between the middle and the red. I turn on the heater to cool it down and it works, but warms right back up as soon as the heater is turned off. It's not exactly fun when it's in the 80s! Any ideas what could be the problem? Besides my mechanic...

I had that issue on truck. I had to replace the radiator every time. Does it start over heating when you run the AC? Or sit in one spot. Check the radiator fan to make sure it's coming one.

The ac doesn't seem to affect it and it's overheating while I'm driving. Not sitting still.

When did you last replace the thermostat?

The thermostat was replaced last year. The housing of course exploded.

What kind of coolant are you using in it? Perhaps flushing might help? How about that water pump as well?

It has antifreeze in it, as for the water pump I haven't heard anything unusual under the hood. Like I said, the mechanic had it for three days and didn't come to any conclusion.

I covered my ideas as well and Randy gave a good solution that the waterpump may not be circulating the water to keep up with demand. The only thing I can think of at this point there is a build of some kind restricting the water. Did you check your fluid levels?

Yep, fluid levels are also normal.

I don't know what the environment in Tenessee is like, but here in rural Alberta we find a lot of run warm/overheat problems are due to dust and chaff build-up in the radiator and condenser fins, to the stage that we actually remove them to wash them out with water and pressurized air.
