2005 Aveo LS showing P0463 code

My 2005 Chevy Aveo recently died while driving. The engine will try to turn over, but it won't start. When we hooked it up to a diagnostic computer, it read "P0463 Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit High Input". There is still some fuel being sent to the engine, the engine will turn over, but it won't start. After doing some research, I've heard time and time again that it's the fuel pump, but I'm looking for more in-depth suggestions. I don't want to spend $350 on a new fuel pump assembly when it may not fix the problem, anyway. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

do you hear the pump prime?

try switching out the fuel pump relay with another in the fuse box to test the relay?

check the schrader valve for fuel pressure?

verify spark?

the code points to a shorted out fuel sending unit. you could buy one off ebay used for much much cheap, and still comes with a warranty.
