      2005 aveo fuel system issues

hey everyone. im new to the site but have been on the site a few times before and found everyones information very helpful. i have a 2005 aveo ls 5speed. i just had the head gasket, timing belt and water pump replaced last week, i drove home from the gym like usual 2 nights ago. went to start the car to go to work and nothing. just cranked and cranked. im pretty sure its the fuel pump i hear priming. is there anything else that culd be going on? i know that its possible with them taking the head off maybe a wire is loose. my step dad is a mechanic but lives 600 miles away and said rarely do fuel pumps on this car just go out without warning but its not out the question. the car has 120k miles and was running like new the night before. any help would be great . thank you.

I don't think the fuel pump priming is an issue. Mine does this every time I get in the car.

It drove fine for a few days so it could be a loose connector. If not, I guess I would start by checking for spark.

This may be hard to diagnose without seeing the vehicle. If you want me to make an appointment at your local dealer just let me know.

Are you getting any codes?. Do you have any test equipment?. Do you smell fuel after cranking for a while at the exhaust pipe? If you smell gas its not the pump. Then with an inline spark plug testor (available for cheep at any parts store) check for spark. hope that helps. Dealers for me anyway are a last resort.

A bad coolant temperature sensor would cause a car not to start. If you can get an OBD2 reader and see what it's reading at. If the difference is more than 10degrees between ambient temperature and a cold engine, you may have a problem.

what ontarian said, and also check the oil pressure sensor connection.

If the fuel pump is priming, but not running. it will try to start, just not run. like it will start and run for 5-10 seconds.

if the oil pressure switch is bad, not connected, etc. it will cut spark / fuel..

What does it do when it cranks?

when it cranks it sounds like its getting no fuel. just turns over. i have a scanner and i can scan it. the engine light doesnt come on. ill check to see if i smell gas when i get home. where is the oil pressure switch located?? and no there is no sign of it trying to start at all.

the engine light wont come on unless it runs with an issue. a no start will not trip the engine light.

so it cranks quickly? does it sound normal? or "too" fast?

the oil pressure switch is under or behind the water pump, on the lower firewall side of the block, towards the passenger side.

check the schrader valve for fuel pressure, it will spray be careful, cover it with a rag.

check for spark by pulling a wire.

To check temperature sensor, you need a scanner that reads live data, sorry, I should've been more specific.
