Chevy Spark price to start below $13,000 in the U.S.

In case there was any doubt that the Aveo's spiritual successor (in terms of market position) is the Spark...

General Motors Co. was to announce today that its 2013 Chevrolet Spark micro car will be priced beginning at less than $13,000 in the United States.

The five-door hatch micro car, which goes on sale this summer, will begin at $12,995 for the LS model with a standard five-speed manual, according to the automaker. It's also available in 1LT and 2LT trim levels beginning at $14,495 and $15,795, respectively.

Of course, the Spark is smaller than the "old" Aveo. It will come with a 1.2L Ecotec and 5-speed standard.

I wonder what the MPG ratings will look like. I would take this over the fiat and smart anyday though.

i think it is sad, my aveo was $10,500. Now a "smaller" car is $2500 more.

I wonder if it will really be under 13 or if it'll be 12,995 + shipping & handling.

The Versa was advertised as 10990 but the dealer cost was more than that.
Sorry GM, the Turbo Sonic was priced too close to the Focus ST. I gots me a Ford.

When I bought my 2010, I could've had one without the AC prep package for 8996 + $27 state title fee.

Here in NH, we pay our tax and reg directly to the town/city. What a difference 2 years makes.

What was the MSRP though? Dealers may always "sell for less".

We can be pretty sure that you'll be able to get a base Spark for less than MSRP at some point (not near "launch" time of course).

I'm happy to see that car ads in Ontario (all of Canada?) now have to show the full price including the various dealer fees & transportation/delivery charges. The only thing they can omit from the figure is taxes. Not sure if it's voluntary or regulated. (Ads for airline tickets are headed the same way, which is good too.)

THAT sounds fair in canada if they can omit taxes. They are pulling the same concept in the US, but supposedly the airlines won't be able to disclose what is the ticket price and what are taxes. So that the government ca "secretly" raise air fare taxing and place the blame on ticket prices..

The local ads here always have an asterisk. I saw one the was a "free" two year lease, no payments for 24 months the fine print was "with $12000 down at signing." It was for a base hyundai accent, i think they actually sell them for $9000.

The Spark has my interest, I am keeping the aveo, but I want to compare the korean daewoo to the american daewoo. But its too much for too little imho. If they make the 1.4t 6 speed "rs" then maybe. But i think my next car will be bigger.

      A free 12k lease... that's classic.

I really wish dealers were required to list the actual price here. I've seen several dealers listing the sale price with an asterisk...find the asterisk disclaimer in a 2.5 font that says after $2500 cash or trade. I expect payment price to include a down payment, but a down payment included in the cash price? really? Why not just make all cars $0.99 and just adjust the down payment.

...and my new 2010 MSRP was just a shade under 13k (including shipping & handling )
