Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
Ok, I just read that the CIBC bank has determined that gasoline is going to $2.25/litre in Canada and I can barely afford to drive to work as it is. I know that the Kalos doesn't come with a Diesel, but is there any other small displacement (not over 1.6L) diesel that I can EASILY fit into my 2005 automatic Aveo5? I'd be willing to import it from Europe or Asia if necessary, but what I don't want is to end up paying my mechanic $5000 to make it work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
Diesel is more then gasoline here so....
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
yeah gas is about $3.50+ here and diesel is $4.10+ for a gallon
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
Diesel is a bit more expensive here too, but a small diesel should give me 60 mpg, and there is always the option to go bio with it. I don't mind refining a bit of french fry oil if it means I don't have to bicycle to work! :)
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
it would be a very costly process to do. not worth it IMO. but if u do do it, def. post up on it.
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
I'd say it'd be worth it in the long run (with how cars are fueled right now)
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
You could try the 1.6l diesels from the mkI and mkII golf/jetta... They're very meh when it comes to acceleration, but give 40-50mpg
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
You want to swap engines/tranny etc etc etc? Good luck with that. You'll spend more $$ than you'll ever hope to save that way.
You're WAY better off selling the thing and just buying a diesel.
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
Anyone been to New York lately and seen the price of unleaded or diesel? You're better off buying a new comfortable pair of sneakers and taking up walking!!
Re: Lunacy? Plunk in a Diesel?
I'd love to just buy a diesel but what's on the market? Nothing that is Aveo sized or smaller and economical! I'd love to pick up something like a 70 mpg diesel Toyota Aygo, but of course, that's not saleable in North America. The car manufacturers still think that we're all want 500 cu. in V8 Eldorados that we can fill up for 39 cents a gallon. I drive about 40,000 miles a year and I work for a living. There is no way I can keep filling up the Aveo at almost $60 a clip... and going up up up up up...
