new used aveo owner
Just bought an 04 and I like it. All stock, still need to do some basic maintenance on it, but I'm planning to get it running like new. I'm using it to learn hypermiling despite the auto trans. Had 70500 miles when I bought it, and I want to get about 200,000 from it or more. So glad to be part of the forum, I hope it stays strong even after the Sonic drops here in the U.S.

timing belt done? before you become a nay sayer..
congrats on the purchase. nice to see hunter has not swept all the hypermilers away..

Oh yeah! Forgot to mention it. The previous owner didn't say whether or not he replaced it, so I'm probably on borrowed time... That's really high on the priority list.
Why did hunter scare people off? I need details :) I've been slumming around cleanmpg and ecomodder a bit but I'm here too since this is the only aveo specific forum and I am sure you guys here will know stuff about my car that nobody else knows.

nah, I just fend of the trolls :D
Hypermillers are welcome here :)
+1 on the timing belt, you will not be doing too much driving it breaks

You posted while I was typing :D
I would have the belt checked out, or if you know what you are doing, take a look at it yourself. I doubt it was changed myself, might be worth contacting the last owner again to see if it was done and by who, if it was done at all.

I tried to ask the previous owner car specific questions when I bought it from him and I'm pretty sure he knows absolutely nothing about cars. It was his wife's car so I'm not sure if he even knows what work was done on it. It's ok though, I've got a sweet hook up for a mechanic, he's inexpensive and extremely good at what he does. He gave the car an inspection and found a couple of small things to fix but said it's in really good shape. Very little rust which is great for a michigan car.
I agree though, it probably wasn't changed. I'm amazed it has lasted this long.

Some of them have been known to last over 100k miles, it is just one of those things. Not a whole lot to worry about, but if you get a good deal for good work, you can not beat that :D
