New Aveo Owner in Central Iowa

Bought a brand new, 2011 Aveo Sedan, Sport Red (hence the name), automatic w. Cruise. Had to have it brought in from another dealer, because I didn't want to pay for extras like power windows, locks and seats. So it's a "base" 1LT with only Cruise added .

I don't have a picture of the car, but I do have a video w/ my boys seeing it for the first time!

I'll be posting some general Q's over the next few days... great forum!

Welcome to the forum and good luck. You don't have to answer but I'm curious what you paid for it. I'm looking for a new car too, and it's between Chevy Sonic and Ford Fiesta right now.

you can't rule out the sonic until you drive it.

i hope its not as disconnected as the cruze feels.

Don't mind at all. $13,250 + tax & title. This was after trading in my 2002 Ford Taurus with 153,000 miles, moderate body damage and a hole in the Catalytic Converter (they "gave me" $600 on the trade in, but we all know it's a net-sum game).

I have a friend who works fairly high-up at a Chevy Dealership. He told me the Sonic would be worth waiting for (I had a non-running car, so I couldn't wait!), but there will be a higher price. How much higher? I've seen online (for an auto like mine) in the $3-6,000 more range. But that could be wrong., I don't have hard facts.

My best friend is bug testing the sonic. I've already driven and ridden in it and it's comparable to the Fiesta. The mid-range model sedan my friend has comes with a 6 speed auto, but a 6 MT is also planned. I spoke with a local dealer who said they are taking shipments in September, and I probably can't wait that long. Starting price will be about 14,500 for the hatchback. I don't know starting sedan prices.

The pros for the Sonic are better ride, better handling, and in the sedan, a whole lot more trunk space. Cons that I've seen, it has only one cup holder(?!?!?!), it isn't coming out for a few months, and I think it may have been designed more for performance than good fuel efficiency. It gets great mpg, don't get me wrong, but I think the Fiesta has more potential. My friend has averaged 29mpg so far, but he drives it to test it, so he hasn't been easy on the gas.

Ultimately for me it comes down to price, so whatever is out and cheapest when I'm about to buy is what I'll get.
