From NC
Hello!
I have a friend who has a '05' Aveo that is need of engine/tranny work, I am wanting to purchase it from him and fix it - I currently have a '94' Geo Metro that I just don't want to put anymore money into - it runs great but, it's just not a comfortable as the Aveo, so once the Aveo is up and running, I will put the Metro up for sale! Looking forward to posting pics and so on about my new project!
Thanks,
Matt

Welcome to the site Matt.
What work needs to be done on the car exactly?
-
There is a Geo Metro that runs in my area with a super charger. I kid you not. I need to see if I ever got a picture of it.

According to my friend, it requires some engine work and tranny work - it is an automatic. I talked with him lastnight and he doesn't think it's really worth fixing due to the cost of fixing and the worth of the car - I'm not sure about that, I have found transmisions from the treasure yards for 350 to 500 with about 85K to 120K miles, and the engines run about 1300 or so. the car is (according to KBB) worth about 3500, and there is about 2000 worth of work needed, then it will need tires, real soon. Then he needs to recover some of his loss that the woman who owns it had him work on another vehicle and she hasn't paid him for that - she has basically left the car with him, he is trying to get the title from her (he has had it for about 2 years now)- so it's not cut and dry, but I'm still thinking I would like to try it out - but undecided.
I took som photos of it last night and here they are:

this last one is the only body damage that is on it, aside from the massive cleaning that will be required!
Thanks, and any suggestions or leads to find what I need would be appreciated!
Matt
BTW - it is a 2004 not a 2005 - sorry, i found that out with the VIN#

What is the nature of the engine work? If you need to do the bent valves broken belt fix, you can do that yourself and swap tranny. If you can get the title for under 500 bucks, do the work, and replace the tranny for the price listed above, I say go for it. It is a good looking Aveo hatch. And oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

thanks, I'll find out more about it, he was telling me that the girl who owned it never did the maintenance - I am no auto tech, but I can swap out parts, my friend is a great auto technician and I trust his judgment. He hasn't diagnosed the tranny yet, He said it would take another 500 in parts to fix the engine (he said that it was over heated, it had a head issue that he has taken care of but there is still more). I'm waiting on a call from O'Reilly today about the cost of a rebuilt engine just so I have some base numers.

Holy **** you will have the first barn find aveo ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha\\:D/

LOL - I hadn't thought of it being a "barn find", my buddy (this same guy) found his 67 mustang in a barn!

Sounds like its worth looking into for sure. Good luck! Keep us updated.

I think I have decided to get it if/once he gets the title, but there is no rush, I have plenty of time!
