The SG-E is good if you just want to check engine codes and learn to drive more efficiently to get better mpg. The SG-II is a bit more full featured and has some extra performance type stuff like its able to time your 0-60, and 60-0 and a few other things.

I'm still using my SG-E (bought via this forum) - it's fine for giving real-time feedback that helps you drive more fuel-efficiently.
