Group Buy: Alutec Lightweight Crank Pulley (E-TEC II engine)
Hey guys...so we've been searching around trying to come back to your community with something that isn't to readily available. Well...we were able to find a company overseas, Alutec, that makes a lightweight crank pulley for the Aveo. Here's some info on it:
- Constructed out of grade 7075-T6 aerospace aluminum for its higher tensile strength & light weight properties compared to conventional pulleys made from 6061 grade.
- Features ultra hard anodizing (evident in the gunmetal color) for superior resistance to friction, ensuring ultra durability.
- Factory balanced and counter-weighted for direct bolt-on with factory belt positioning.
- Easily gain 5-10% power & torque on NA cars & 10% or above for forced induction cars, depending on car's set-up!
- Linear power gains across rpm range and torque curve - increased torque & power from low to high end ! Increased throttle response instantly felt !
- O.E sized (no underdrive) - suitable for street cars / daily driver running extensive I.C.E, and suitable for both manual or auto trans.

The lightweight crank pulley is at OEM size but just made much lighter. The lightweight underdrive pulley is made smaller than OEM and is also made lighter.

haha...yep. right in Rome. Be sure to look for our 240sx this Spring/Summer :)

Just to be 100% sure...the 1.6L Etec-II was in all US Aveo's 2003-2010 and the 1.6L Ecotec is in all US Ave's 2011-Up, correct?

not quite, etecII is until 2008, ecotec is 09+

depending on pricing, I may have to put my name on the list for one of these. Sorry to veer off subject a little bit but, along similar lines, has anyone found a workable solution for a lightweight flywheel? I have an 04 manual! I know at somepoint I will be replacing the clutch, I would like to find a lightweight flywheel before that time gets here.

just get one machined. buy a stock on and @$150 to turn it in a lathe or mill it down.

thanks petrified, I may have to go that route, I would just need to check out some places in reguard to doing a proper milling, or machining. I hate the thought of having to have someone else do something for me, but sometimes you just have to.

Thankyou but, the OEM size lightweight from alutec is what i would need, Im more about my stereo than performance LOL, as is my current setup is pushing 400 watts (250watts for 2 tens and 150watts for the 5.25 components) and as is my alt cant handle that, at night my headlights look like strobes

Aha - gotcha.

Look on the positive side: go the underdrive route and people will get out of your way at night with your "emergency vehicle" headlights flashing away.

I think this would be Better for me as well.. I'm going for 5000w this season... We will see how well this works out for me :-P

LOL, very true. Ive got a 1 farad cap to install. In the beginning I had a single 8 on the 250 watt sub amp with the cap, i redid the wiring with better power wire and upgraded to 2 tens which draw more from the amp but I didnt include the cap when I rewired, I wish I had reinstalled it

Forget caps man they are junk.. Buy an extra battery.. Even the smallest kinetic battery is the same as 200 1farad caps

My wife is not into bass and I have a 22 month old daughter so i cant go real big. right now I have 2 JL 10W1s (single 4vc for a 2ohm load) running on a JL250/1 my wife already complains that bass is annoying LOL I do want to upgrade though, I currently have 2 more 10W1s collecting dust in my garage, I am keeping my eyes open for another black series JL 250/1 slashv2 amp. once I find the amp, I want to ethier run all 4 10s or switch over to 2 JL12W3s. In the meantime I am looking for someone that can rewrap the stock alternator for higher output

Install a remote gain controller that way when she's in the car you can have no bass and when she's gone you can have whatever level of bass you desire

tidus10, my setup is tuned for a max volume of 19 off my Alpine CDA-9885, when my wife and/or daughter are with me i will have vol at 5 or 6 which doesnt produce much bass. Unfortunately with the JL 250/1 slash series amps, they are not set up for remote, the 500 and 1000 can utilize a remote though. a few weekends ago we were cleaning out the garage and I had some older linkin park playing on vol 12 I turned the Alpine bass level down to 5 and she still complained LOL. Its a good thing I dont still have my first system she would absolutely hate it. Years ago I had 3 JL 12W6s on a PPI I cant remember which PPI I do remember the amp was 2 foot long.

I'm working on hooking you guys up :) Trying to see how many I'll need to get here. The problem with Alutec is that they require a certain amount of parts purchased all at once. If need be, NGT will buy some up to stock as well.

I'd give it some time, its a newer engine so aftermarket companies will scoop it up soon. Especially if the new Chevy Cruze has the same engine.

to be honest...this isn't looking to good. I've been trying to find something for the Aveo crowd and when I finally come across something that hasn't been in the US yet...there really isn't any interest. Not sure what else to do...

Bummer. Unfortunately, I think the aftermarket situation with the Aveo is a bit of a chicken and egg thing.

Don't give up on us -- but keep the buy open if you can because the forum user base is steadily growing. Every month there are ~100 more members to reach.

We had a bunch of lightweight underdrive pulleys made and haven't sold them all yet. It'd be nice to turn them over quick, but we're OK with them going out one at a time.
