hearing an odd noise!?!?!

whenever my rpm's drop past 2000 to around 1500 i get this odd noise. its coming from the drivers side and its almost like a deep clicking or knocking noise. this noise doesn't last long, but it is there for a brief second or too. the noise quiets when i push in the clutch as well. at first i thought it was ice bouncing around in the engine bay since we got tons of snow the last couple of weeks, but all the ice has melted away now.

this didn't start happening until after i got my car started the following day after i crossed a mega flooded road. which is the reason why everything under the hood froze up probably

my oil pressure is fine, maybe a bad batch of gas? or slight misfire? idk

any thoughts or ideas?

check the mounts? seems to be a common thing, and the torque of the engine would keep it from vibrating / knocking under load.

the clutch going in making it disappear leads me to the transmission side.

but it could also be a CV, or damage to the transmission.

hard to diagnose a noise from a written description, almost need to be there. try getting it to make the noise without the car moving (make sure it is secured) and hunt around, it is easier than you think most of the time, unless it is internal.

i had a very similar sound coming from my car when gearbox mount went. is your gear stick shiftingabout under aceleration and deceleration if it is this is how i determind that it was the mount on my car. another way to check for that is does the whole engine move in the engine bay. from what iv read around the internet the mounts seam to be quite poor to our cars if they are driven paticulary hard

when my car idles, there is a knocking sound that sounds like a piece of plastic is flying around in the engine bay, the dealer says it is normal with samll cars though,

ok i'll be sure to check my driver side mounts. its weird i had my girlfriend rev the engine a bit and i couldn't see or even hear the noise from outside, but she was telling me she could still hear it from inside :?

my stick doesn't move or shift around during normal acceleration or decelleration so maybe its not the gearbox mount.

and rabbit what is the CV your talking about?? sorry it doesn't ring a bell

thanks for the input everyone :D

Not exactly...you can still hear a CV axle if you are not turning. It can sound like a clicking. They have bearings inside them about the size of marbles. Maybe check your distributor cap and plug connections? Could've gotten some water in there. If you do, wipe it out with a paper towel and spray the inside with WD-40. Same for your plug wire ends.

it most likely isnt the cv, but it could be anything from the throw out bearing, to the cv..
with just a few clues its not easy to tell.

btw my throwout bearing rattles..

it you can hear it inside and not outside, it might be something against the firewall, if you went on a mega flooded road you could have anything from water in the engine tranny, or a wet clutch, or rust starting somewhere that is throwing something off balance...

this noise is driving me crazy :x
i'm gonna really start getting into my car and looking for the culprit this weekend.
the noise is definitely more of a knocking sort of noise now that i've heard it more.
the noise also comes from going in reverse for the first few feet. it also stops when in nuetral and starts again in gear. i can hear it when my car is idling as well. never upon first start up but after a bit of driving it comes again.
