By pulling on it and taking appart the ball bearings in the boot, we tried putting it back together for like 2 hours, usualy they just pop back in but i dunno how the hell these ones are made, theres 6 ball bearing inside the boot, putting back together is almost impossible.

some of the new ones have a bend and twist design, where you put the two halves together at a 90 degree angle turn it to 45 degrees, push themtowrads each other, and then twist them into place... not sure that is written quite how it is done..

Ill take some pics of the shaft while its appart, you guys will understand what i mean.

Yes the stock axels work with the D20 no problem, which means they also work with the F28

I was talking to a guy at work about my mishap with my axel shaft and he said well take it to this place i know, they will put it back together for you for like 50 buks, they will also change any bearings that have scratches or notches, clean up the boot nicely and add brand new grease.

Im gonna give them a call this week, if they can do it its hella lot better then spending 220$ on a new axel

I can't believe they're so expensive, I bought both axles for my Jetta and they were upgraded performance 100mm and they were only 189 bucks together.

Yeah i know its crazy how expensive they are. They are not listed at any auto parts store i went, so the only place i can get them is at a gm dealer or a wreck yard.

I cheked the wreck yard where i bought my engine/gearbox and they have it at 170 buks, if thats from a scrapyard imagine the dealer.

There is a chance we will be putting an F28 into an Aveo fairly soon, our 2.0L 8V making 18PSI has been eating clutches.

Surprisingly enough the original D16 is still hanging in there and that is with semi-aggressive corner acceleration.

The F28 is a big fat pig.... the newer M32 from the Astra VXR ( which I have in my garage) is a much more compact unit and it's already hydraulic and it has a cable driven shifter so it should be easy to convert ( no mechanical linkage to worry about )

If you look around the UK you might find one... migweb and ebay.co.uk are good places to start.

I imported it from the UK last year.... just haven't had the time to do much with it.... perhaps this winter I will drop it in one of my four project cars.

The M32 will be stronger, lighter and smoother than the F28.... also the F28 is not easily rebuilt since some of the internal parts are hard to find or discontinued.

In general you can still fix them.... but in some cases it means a small amount of machining to get aftermarket replacement parts from a different application to fit.

One good source for low mileage F28's is Japan.... I just recently imported an Opel Calibra AWD 2.0L Turbo ( C20LET with 4X4 F28 )

I'm going to see if I can bring in a few engines/gearboxes.... but I suppose it depends on demand.... I have to think there are only a few guys on Daewootech that would be interested in dropping the cash for a C20LET/F28
