thanks for taking the time to respond.
belltroy, where are you? we never heard back about the year and miles of you vehicle. also, whether your engine was damaged.
Yes, I am interested in how many miles, also. It won't help you but it might help someone else. Thanks.
I hope that the damage to your engine is slight, or even, hopefully, none.
I checked and my 2005 Aveo LS has a metal thermostat housing. I bought the car used so I don't know if it ever had a plastic one.
Are you able to test that circuit for a short?
What circuit does that fuse protect? Or do you need a wiring diagram to determine that?
With such dire consequences from a failure, I think that I will replace mine. It can't be too difficult?
My opinion is that it will be easier to remove the engine and transmission. Then, swap engines. You will quickly see if there is going to be any problem mating the new engine to the transmission.
Any particular reason your thermostat housing broke?
Sorry, I wasn't paying attention.
All my doors are manual so I can't give you any first hand advice. My best (only?) advice is to google or youtube the problem and see what happens. Good luck.
So, you got a partial fix?
Your story has a good ending. So much better than those stories where the guy spends a lot of money and doesn't get the problem fixed.
Oh, I forgot to explain fully. Before changing the plugs and wires, I replaced the valve cover gasket.
My 2005 Aveo LS is very sensitive to oil on the plugs and wires. Had a leaky valve cover gasket that allowed oil to get onto several plugs. The car would not even start, let alone run rough. ...
It looks like you are not going to get any suggestions. Maybe posting some photos would help? Some threads get lots of posts and some none. Why? It's a mystery.
Did you check for overheating? Low or burnt transmission fluid?
Sounds like a cheap fix considering the amount of damage. Still, I hope that I never have to do it. Good luck.
Why did you change the original air filter? Works better? Looks better?
When I drive highway, I average 39 mpg. In the city I only get 27 no matter what I do. I have a 2005 Aveo LS with 77k.
I don't have an answer for you but I am mystified that no one with knowledge about the problem has responded to your thread. This forum is sometimes hard for me to understand, with some threads...
Don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt: Get some white grease (for some strange reason auto stores, at least in my area, have stopped carrying it) at an Ace type hardware store and apply a...
Wow! I hope that is something that doesn't happen to the average Aveo. Did you mention how many miles on your car? Any theories as to how and why it happened?
Air cleaner? Do you mean air filter? I am always interested in learning. How did you determine that was the problem?
It's hard to argue with someone who knows that they know.
