Glad to hear you finally got this sorted out, Tim.
Now you can pull off that little piece of black electrical tape from over the check engine light! :D
... not to mention get the car past the "automatic disqualification" part of emission testing (assuming the "problem" isn't actually affecting emissions)
Shifter slop might be bushings. I didn't notice the shifter bad in the last Aveo I drove (also '05 sedan).
1st gen VW Rabbits were bad for worn out bushings in the linkage. I got a kit for...
So, how was the first commute?
Learn anything new? Pros & cons?
Congrats on the first drive!
Hmm... 2005 sedan - did you find it to ride smoother and quieter than you were expecting??
Woohoo! It lives.
Glad you figured out the puddle under the car wasn't anything serious.
Woohoo!
Also, I think you should paint "5 6 7 8" on the other camshaft cover. Keep people guessing. :D
Looks like you're going to need a new oil filter too. The guys at the yard weren't too careful!
Out of curiousity: do you know how much it weighs?
Serega - nothing wrong with bumping old threads with new questions/info.
Woohoo! It's rare to read people say that on forums. I like it. :D
I agree: get at it, Tim!
Think he's going with a replacement.
I'd go the used engine route.
Saves more money for turbo tinkering. :)
Wow - lucky you.
You should invite the small crew to come back next week and help with the engine rebuild too :D
So I'm guessing you didn't find any hidden missing teeth on the belt when you took it off?
That's strange - the timing belt not being broken. Maybe there are teeth missing from one spot
Too bad for the previous owner. But good for Tim!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen: he works fast. :P
OW ... that piston
Think bits of the struck valves broke and fell into the cylinder when the belt snapped? That piston looks like hamburger! Something was bouncing around in there.
