I would agree with WyrTwister. It is easier and usually cheaper to replace the whole engine vs doing a rebuild.
Thanks, it was a fun project. :) I'm glad its helped others out too.
What pulley are you talking about? If you're talking about the tensioner, its probably the same.
Im glad this thread could be a big help.
I would save the $800 and go with the later engine. There really aren't that many differences and they're pretty obvious. Off the top of my head I can...
I'm going to have to say keeping the engine in the car is probaby going to be more of a pain than just taking it out. This is mainly due to the engine to transmission connection. You would at least...
With a little snow on the ground it'll spin in circles real good. :)
There really isn't anything to report. Its running like a top. :)
Yeah, I'm guessing they just rounded it up to the hourly rate plus a few rediculous chargers ($4.00 "environmental fee" what the heck is that?) It was fixed and I was happy so that was the end of it.
I ended up capping the breather hole. It apparently used to go to a metal pipe that mounted on the block. The 07 block didn't have holes in place to mount it. I'm guessing it was a crankcase...
Looking back, I'm still glad I dropped the 1.6L back into the car because I didn't want any hassles and needed it done soon. However, I did have a line on a 2.2L for about $100 more than the 1.6L I...
I found the engine through a local salvage yard. Car-part.com is an excellent site to search local salvage yards.
The engine was from a 2007, and there were some differences. The intake manifold...
The relearn should only cost about $100 (1 hr of labor) to get done. I'd recommend it. It smooths the engine out a bit and just makes it drive a bit nicer.
07 uses drive by wire, 05 is cable throttle. It won't work. Sorry, ya gotta get the relearn done.
The shop (not a dealer) I took mine too first could not do the relearn for some reason. They borrowed a scan tool from another local shop. I've also talked with other people at other shops (not...
Removing the flywheel isn't a problem. An impact wrench is a nice thing to have though.
Actual time was quite a bit as I didn't know exactly what I was going to do (rebuild or put a salvage yard engine in). Honestly, its really not that hard to do. Everything only plugs into one...
Drove the Aveo to work today. The light turned off. All is well again.
Apparently you have to buy an entire new gas cap as the seal is molded into it. Anyway, thats done, but I haven't driven it since. I'm pretty sure that'll fix it as the old gas cap didn't even...
Well, maybe not quite. Got a P0455 code on the way home the other day. I'll pickup a new o-ring for the gas cap on the way home from work today I suppose.
Well, I picked the car up tonight and drove it home. The relearn seems to have worked! It behaves much better at low throttle input now too. Before, it used to buck a little bit going down the...
More fixing unfortunately. The driver's side door doesn't lock, and the rear driver's side tire leaks air slowly. Then there is the cosmetics... I got a bit to do yet.
I have gone through about 1 tank of gas with the error code.
I got the call from the dealer. They say its all fixed and ready to go. The fix cost $125.
I'm glad to say I finally got my car in to the dealer last night. They should be doing the crankshaft relearn procedure this morning. So, I should be getting a call sometime today. I really hope...
