      Fun in the snow!

Has anyone else had enough snow to play in yet this year? We have and it is hitting us hard. It's been going since about 4pm and it's now 130am without any signs of slowing down.

So, I went earlier to pick up a friend of my gf's and brought her over to hang out with us, this was about 8pm traffic and plows were still managing the snow so it wasn't to bad. Now at a little after midnight we finally decide it's time for her to go home. No more traffic, no more plows, and I can barely tell where the road is. Took her home the safe easy route. Left her place (now i'm in the car by myself). Took the back roads back to the gf's house. Going up a hill I managed to pass a 2 wheel drive blazer with good tires. Halfway up the next hill I had to pull over. There was an officer blocking the road due to someone hitting power lines. He gives me an alternate route. Even with a couple stop signs near the top of a hill I still managed to get my aveo going and once I got to that point I had next to no trouble driving through even somewhat deep snow (not quite up to the bottom of the car, but getting there). I had mini-vans and other suv's having to second guess turns that they watched me take, It was hilarious.

Mine is a 2008 aveo5 sv with a 5-speed manual and 195/60/14 uniroyal tiger paw tires.

Anyone else get to play in the snow yet?

no snow to play in yet. Can't wait though! The Monte is so much fun in the snow it's ridiculous. And It always surprises me in the snow. I live on a steep hil that 4x4's constantly fail to get up during the winter. It's fun to watch. Anyways, the Monte always makes it up no problem. I usually just chalk it up to the heavy V6 over the front drive wheels and the large 225/60R16 tires.
      - 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 - LQ1 3.4L DOHC 24 valve semi-hemi V6, 210 HP, 215 ft-lbs of torque, 4T60e 4 speed automatic with O/D.... 123,000+ miles. Slowly resto-modding it.
      - looking for a first gen Aveo for a daily driver :D

My aveo does well in the snow, even though if plows the roads for the municipality and last time we got a big snow fall i ripped the front bumper off..

We have about an inch now, more falling for the next 3? days likely.. Although the weather man said this storm was lake effect and not going to hit us at all..

All in all we ended up with more than 8 inches of snow.

I ended up plowing through the middle of the street yesterday. The city didn't bother to clear the entire street and left snow piled in the middle. I needed to turn aruond, so I did.

i envy PA, OH, NY, and all them other states over east of the Great Lakes cus of all your snow. I wish we would get that instead of this rain that just melted the 1 inch of snow we just got.
You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

the salt is the best part, it helps you shed weight on your car without having to modify it

We got a nice layer of ice over some of our roads now, I need to find an empty unused, uncared for, parking lot.

Hopefully without light poles in the said parking. My aveo is the first drive I owned. I am good at rear wheel drive in the snow, mud and rain. All my driving I did last year in the snow (in Iowa) I behaved. Now that I am down in SC how does one drive a front wheel drive aggressively?

What to do with rear wheel breaking loose?
What to do when the front wheels break loose? In fact how do you get the front wheels to break loose?
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

honestly fwd is only really good at driving normally in the snow..

donuts tend to need to be done in reverse, which means possibly breaking cvs, etc..

you can get the rear end to break loose like a rwd car, but you can pull the e brake in a slide to get the tires to drift out of line with the front, keeping it on would make you spin out.. front wheels break loose just be dropping the clutch/extreme change in rpm.. (down shifting) but with all the engine weight over the front wheels you wont do much more than the common every fwd car one wheel burn out..
