First, looking at those pictures, if that is the oil pan edge is what i am seeing, then his 8 oclock is the other guys 6 oclock..
if the oil pan is the horizon line, his 8 oclock would point straight down.

Second, you do not turn the water pump gear, you turn the water pump. it is "cammed" so to speak so that when you turn the assembly, the gear moves out.

Will the procedure be the same on a 2008 aveo sedan?

Thankyou. Best write up I've seen (seen 3 or 4 others online), now I finally understand what the tensioner pointers do and what the 2 turns is all about. Curious that I didn't see <angular torque guide> in the listed tools, though I guess that this is only the crank pulley, not exactly like tightening cylinder head bolts! My daughter surprised me when I told her about this project, saying she wanted to tackle it (with a little assistance of course). We have an automatic, so I dont know how that will affect removing or tightened the crank pulley bolt. hoping I dont have to remove the starter to lock the flywheel. Also I was thinking it would be easier to turn the engine/adjust the cams if the spark plugs were removed?

I didn't pull the spark plugs - if you eat Wheaties for breakfast you should be just fine.

How much coolant did you remove and where is the best place to remove it from?

I don't have small enough hands to get through the bumper supports and to the drain plug on the rad. I just took off the hoses that were also replaced and had a catch pan underneath to collect it all.

No idea how much coolant came out, or how much I put back in. I bought 4L of coolant and 4L of deionized water and used most of it to re-fill. Stop filling when you're at the MAX mark on the reservoir and the air stops burping out.

How hard is it to replace the water pump without removing the cams gears? I don't want to remove mine again. If you could guess, I am about to change my timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley and water pump. It is time. When I swapped my cams out I just took a crow bar and pryed the belt off then did the opposite when putting it back on. I used a rubber strap to hold the cam gears in place from the spring tension.
