      Removing Manual Shift Knob?

      So i've tried everyway how to remove the shift knob without damaging it, what is the proper way to remove it on a 2006 manual?

      heat it in boiling water for 10-15 minutes, put it in a vice, then twist it off. I don't think you can remove it without damaging it.

      How exactly do you put it in boiling water? It's attached to the car.

      duh, you turn the car upside down and hold the pot up to the shifter...

      But I don't know how to take it out, that's the problem.

      i have an automatic

      I got really pissed off with mine and cranked it off with a pair of vice grips...

      then on closer inspection i realized that it does not turn off at all.. it pulls straight up...


      so when i was at the wreckers i practiced and my theory was right it does pull straight up with ALOT of force...

      I dont know if that is the same with cars that have the Button shift knob mine is the older one that does nothing..

      whole lever can be taken out by removing the clip at the plastic cage below. No need to turn the car around.
