      Double part radio Onstar question

I'm installing an aftermarket head unit in my 09 hatchback with Onstar. How will it effect the operation of the onstar and is there anything I need to do special to make sure it still works after the install? This is the first time I've done an install with a car with onstar. I hope someone can answer this.

      Jason

i tried installing one without the onstar add on, the airbag lights came on every time i turned on the head lights.

i couldn't figure out how the two were tied together, except for the dim option of the radio, and the microphone/speaker of the onstar. But since i couldnt be positive the airbags would go off in an accident, i removed the radio and bought a factory cd unit.

i didn't spend a lot of time looking into it though, i am sure it was wired in properly, and everything though.

but the solution is they make an onstar add on unit, i think it was like $150. That you wire in between the factory harness and the aftermarket radio.

The Onstar system is already installed in the car that you did this with?

yes a 2009 aveo svm, with onstar and a base stereo..

this i just the first one that came up, not saying buy here, or best price..

but you need one of these for onstar to work:

      http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=11231

edit and its just an example, it does not list aveo as fitment..

and like i said in my car not having the onstar turned the airbag light on, with my wife in the car and being a father, i would like to know if it would go off or not.

I think ^that'll work, or you could use a Peripheral made by Directed Car Audio.
