there are OEM kit on ebay for about $1500

as far as the installation, you might be able to install it yourself if you are mechanically inclined, and for charging it you'll need to see a shop

      Re: 2005 AVEO INSTALLING A/C

im putting ac in my 2010,,i have an 06 without it
i recent installed the climate control deal on inside ,,so when i do get my underhood pieces im ready
..im having a hard time finding a salvagd 09 or 10 to get ac from ,,,gm wantd 190 big ones for just the climate control i found one on ebay for 24.00 and its now in mine.. it was easy ,,matter of fact i drink three ying lings wjhile doing it ,,it was a snap really
installing ac isnt that tuff ,,u just need to find a car with all the parts and take em all ,,
lil bolts here and there are hard to chase down
gm has the wires alredy there on both gens
u can buy whats needed for less than 500..04-08 models are easier than 09-10 ones
i am lucky becaus most 09-10 models that dont have ac have condenser and evaporator already installed it seems
      you will need:
      1.evaporator
      2. condensor
      3. ac compressor
4 3 lines that link it all together
5 and bolts ***bolts to conect lines to condesor and evaporator
      6. maybe ac bracket but it seems on alot of 04-08 models bracket is there

u can chrage it yourself at home but you arent gonna really know how full it is
but if you got enough in it that it blows cold ,,then you are on your way
i cant imagigine the tiny aveo system holdn two cans of freon but it may
most ac systems wont kik on till they have enough freon so if u have the car running and pump kicks on when yoiu are filling it you will have a great start

according to gm specs even the 09-10 use same pieces as an 04-08 but the acessory drives on the
      two difrnt gens are different
if anyone knows if 04-08 under hood ac parts will work on 09-10 please share it with me
u can find all the 04-08 parts reasonably priced
but wen im underneath my 10 model it looks alot different than my 06
2010 model; has two acessory belts
      04-08 has one
if u pop your hood look at bottom of serpentine belt , theres a dummy pulley there
your ac pump(that has pulley) replaces that dummy one
thats why 04-08 serpentine belt is same for non ac and ac cars ,,
also look at the firewall on passenger side u will see a platic cap and it has a bolt thru it
that bolt is the same bolt you use wen you put your lines there to firewall
that line is same on all gens

keep us posted and if you find an 09-10 donor that i can buy ac parts from pleaes yell
gm sells a kit but its 1500 big ones
i found it for 860 at gm parts direct
i will not give up lol i will have cold ac n my new aveo and im gonna install it myself

$1500 is what the dealer wants... It's $800-900 elsewhere, like dlc70 said gm parts direct is a good place. I've seen them on eBay for around a grand... don't remember what the shipping was... For me personally I don't think it's worth the money and trouble with installation for the few weeks of nice weather we get here in Seattle area... I can roll my windows down for those few weeks.. And actually enjoy that little bit of sun. It could be different where you're at though....

since you have experience with the aveo a/c, how much does the whole system weigh, i cant even guesstimate that one lol

Well I have a 2009 and use it for a pilot/escort vehicle for oversize loads. Therefor I am all over the place such as Nevada where it gets like africa hot. So I am going to install a/c this month and appreciate the help. So if there's anymore help out there I will take all I can get. Starting from scratch now. kevin hermiston, oregon

the 09 uses a different kit than the earlier models, gm 3.8 compressor does not fit (cross check on used parts says it will).

      used parts somewhat available.
