Went lower today **UPDATED**
« Thread Started on Aug 3, 2006, 11:26pm »

Well i decided to try something today. I'm already lowered with Apex but i wanted to go a bit lower, so this morning i bought 8 heavy duty clamps and put 2 on each coil spring. The car dropped about 1 inch more all around, handling is greatly improved and body roll nearly inexistent, of course ride quality suffers but i like it that way, it's not too bouncy either.

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

What happens when you're going 65mph on the highway and one of the clamps break?

It'll totally unbalance the car and most likely cause an accident.

I'm well aware of the dangers in doing this dude, but its only temporary because i wanted to see what it would do if i would cut the coils, and since doing this is very similar to getting the coils cut well you get the picture, i didnt want to cut the coils and then end up not liking it.

Just cut a link off of the Apexs. It would basically be the same thing. By the time your struts/shocks give you KYB should have a full set released.

Well after trying to lower the ride and feeling how it drives using clamps on the coils, i took them off today and cut 2 coils off the Apex's, it sits a tad lower then with the clamps. No rubbing issues yet and the ride stiffness is just right (harder then non cut coils though).

At least now its properly done.

Need a thumbs down emoticon... stripe... ss badge... thumbs down.

Like the wheels, though.

Also entirely too low for my tastes.

now that is low, and it looks awesome, does it still lean all over the place?

No, suspension is way stiffer then stock, and stiffer then normal lowering springs, body roll is nearly inexistent

I'm just "keepin' it real" *gangsigns*

Trying to clear this up before anyone else does it.

Cutting springs cannot and will not make the springs themselves stiffer. It's physically impossible to remove coils from a spring and increase the spring rate.

The reason for the ride feeling stiffer is most likely because at even the slightest push or pull the suspension assembly is maxing out.

I would be concerned about accelerated wear on the rest of the suspension.

And put a skidplate on that thing before you lose your oil pan!
