VW Coil Over Retrofit (parts list)

I get a lot of PMs here about installing coil overs and what it takes. So I am going to post this here, again.

You will want to use mk1 vw coil overs. Ride quality will be about the same as the quality of the coil over.

You will need to grind down both sides of the spindle to fit the FRONT strut. (NOT for the faint of heart)

To hook up the sway bar:

set up fee for the fabricator @$50
each cut piece, you need 2. @$20

These will be raw steel, I was etch priming and painting them before shipping.

4 of 6343 - Metric hex bolts, Zinc plated class 8.8 steel, 12mm x 1.5mm x 80mm- 1.40 each= $5.60+
8 of 6877 - Metric hex nuts, Zinc plated class 8.8 steel, 12mm x 1.5mm- .33 each = $2.64+
16 of 4531 - Metric flat washers, Zinc plated steel, 12mm- .14 each = $2.24+
4 of 4829 - Metric lock washers, Zinc plated steel, 12mm- .13 each = .52+

$151.80 + shipping from each facility. The $90 for the two plates can fluctuate. I have paid more, I have paid less I was using ALRO steel, they are local to me but ship everywhere. The quotes are also based on current steel pricing per lb..

Files you will need, I can email them to you. They are a CAD, and a DXF. I assume most companies can still make one of them work?


Considering the added shipping cost and time and cost of painting them, by bringing down cost to the bulk pricing point, and splitting the $50 set up 5 ways. I was selling them for $125 shipped (My shipping to you).

FYI:

I just ordered 4 additional sets in 3/8" steel. (twice as thick as before). They will be in next week sometime, if anyone wants to add the sway bar to their coil overs, this is the only "custom" piece you will need.

Also it works with out the sway bar too, just getting it out is the trick. Over 10k without one. I am also on a lot to answer questions if you want to do the swap, or my car. Along with which coilovers to use either mk1 or mk2 works and everything down to detail. Again Rabbit, good write up. Sorry about the photos, my tablet is on the frizz. I am personally against suggesting mk2 coil overs because of the rear bottoming out when you go more than 2".
Which 2" of drop is almost achievable with springs alone (no point in coil overs at that height).. The mk2 fronts are great though.

The new brackets have arrived. With the added thickness and having multiple orders place I can price them at $50 shipped. This is only for the bracket, not the whole kit.

I agree I bought custom spring in the tear to prevent. Going mk1 soo, just got poly urethane mounts put in to make way to turn , went from a 3 bolt mount to two bolt solid mounts
